Homeowners Insurnace question.?

I am seeking Info on Avatar Property & Casualty Insurance from Tampa FL? My mom has to get new homeowners insurance and this was recommended to her. She wanted me to check them out and They are not registered with the BBA so... I was wondering if anyone has had dealings with them. 1 - Went to AM Best - Not Rated (thanks) 2 - the major insurance companies have dropped the homeowners insurance for all homeowners in the area because they are within 1 mile of Indian River. She previously had State Farm. That's why I am suspicious of this company that just showed up out of nowhere. They have a website but not much info on it. I am ready to tell her not to use them.

  1. go to AM Best and look up their rating
  2. They may be a good company, but I have never heard of them. Why don't you find a well known company like State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, even Auto Club. Check with the insurance company that carries your auto insurance because then you get discounts on everything you have.
  3. Are you sure that's not a broker rather than an insurance company?
  4. Most major insurance companies are dropping all current homeowners due to the risk of hurricans. eally only non standard carriers are conducting bussiness in FL. Really if the price is reasonable take it. Ask themn how many properties they ionsure in FL. All insuirance companies are regualted through the state so they will have your back if something bad happens to this company
  5. I never heard of them. If they are not rated by AMBest, run away. This means they are probably a new startup company & probably do not have the reserves to handle the claims for any sort of large storm. Then, if there is a major storm & the company goes under, hopefully FL has a guaranty fund that can help you but that could take a LONG time to collect on the claim, or you may only get pennies on the dollar. I wouldn't take the chance. At this point Citizens (Fair plan for FL) would be the best choice, at least the State would have to back up the claims losses.
